Quick and Easy Chocolate-Frosted Donuts
Updated: Oct 26, 2020
The easiest donut recipe you'll find!

I was just scrolling through my phone on TikTok, bored out of my mind. Suddenly, I came across this video of a girl who was complaining about how while her family was watching TV, she had to make donuts for them to enjoy. Then it hit me: I have never made donuts before! At 11:15 at night, I scrolled through dozens of recipes to find the perfect one that didn't involve complicated ingredients or a large timeframe. And at 11:35, I started to make some magic. Along with the recipe, I will even include fun tips and tricks to make this process a breeze!
Ingredients:
For Donuts-
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
a pinch of salt
1/4 cup melted butter
1/2 cup milk (I used whole milk, but it is your choice)
2 tablespoons oil (I used olive oil)
For Chocolate Frosting-
vanilla frosting by Betty Crocker
cocoa powder
To Fry:
A pot filled halfway with oil (I used olive oil, but you may use any type)

Recipe for Donuts:
Combine all the dry ingredients (all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt) into a large bowl and mix.
In another cup, combine together all the wet ingredients (melted butter, milk, and oil).
Add the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a dough is formed.
Kneed the dough on the countertop to achieve fluffier donuts.
Start to heat the pot of oil at medium heat.
Meanwhile, roll the dough out. If it starts sticking to your hands or the countertop, add a bit of flour to the surface and your hands.
Cut out a big holes into the dough, and small holes into the center of the big holes. To acheive the big holes, I used a cookie cutter. To acheive the small holes, I used the small cap of a bottle of oil.
To test if the oil is hot enough, throw in a small piece of dough into the oil. If it starts to fry immediately, the oil is ready.
Drop a cut-out piece of dough into the oil. Flip it once one side is a nice light brown. Once the other side is also a light brown, take it out of the oil and place it on top of sheets of paper towels to soak in the oil. Repeat until all the dough is used.
Recipe for Chocolate Frosting:
Take the vanilla frosting and add it into a cup.
Add one or two tablespoons of cocao powder depending on your liking.
Mix it up until all the cocoa is incorporated. You may add a bit of milk for a lighter consistency.
Spread it onto the donuts.
That's all!

The key to perfection in all my recipes is to be creative and to use what you have at home! For example, if you do not have a cookie cutter, use a lid or any other circular object lying around your home. Or if you do not have pre-made frosting, look for other substitutes such as caramel sauce or chocolate drizzle that are normally used to top ice cream. And just for fun, sprinkle some chocolate chips and rainbow sprinkles for a pop of color. Enjoy!
